For this tool you will need your electricity price, fossil fuel price, heating zone, and the installation cost assumptions for each system.

Values and formulas match the Heating sheet from the new spreadsheet.
Spreadsheet default: $0.175/kWh.
The calculator converts the entered base price using the sheet's fuel price factor.
Spreadsheet default: 1.4. Effective fuel price is factor x base price.
Choose the eGRID subregion for your electricity source, or use Natural Gas or Coal. Use the eGRID Subregions Map in the Carbon Footprint Calculator to find your subregion.
Spreadsheet Heating tab supports Zone 2 through Zone 6.
Furnace A/C is the baseline system. Savings, payback, % CO2 reduction, CO2/$, added electricity, and solar panels needed are calculated for each alternative against Furnace A/C.
