Driving Comparison Tool
Compare two vehicles by annual cost, CO2 emissions, payback period, and IRR.
For this tool you will need to choose two vehicles that you want to compare, the price for these cars and the average MPG or MPGe. Also, you will need the price you pay for electricity in $/kWh.
Vehicle Inputs
Select the type of vehicle and enter the MPG or MPGe for each vehicle.
Vehicle 1
Enter the vehicle's miles per gallon if it uses gasoline.
Enter the vehicle's miles per gallon equivalent if it is electric or plug-in hybrid.
Vehicle 2
Enter the vehicle's miles per gallon if it uses gasoline.
Enter the vehicle's miles per gallon equivalent if it is electric or plug-in hybrid.
Driving Assumptions
Enter the annual miles you estimate that you will drive the vehicle.
Enter the $/gallon price you want to use.
Enter your electricity price.
Choose which fuel source you want to base your electrical generation on. Either find your subregion on the eGrid map or use natural gas or coal.
Enter the cost of vehicle 2 minus vehicle 1 including any state or local incentives for vehicle 2.
Enter any state driving tax for vehicle 2 minus vehicle 1.
Choose the interest or discount rate you would like to use.
EV calculations use 33.7 kWh per gallon equivalent. Plug-in Hybrid is calculated as 50% gas and 50% electric.
Adjust inputs to update the model, then export the report.
